How can you learn about all of America's colleges? How do you find the best match -- the best college for you? Big or small, pre-professional or liberal arts, conservative or liberal, private or public, East or West -- there are many things to consider.

When conducting research it's imperative that you evaluate the source. There is a lot of junk out there and you don't want to have misleading information. The following are some excellent (and reliable) sources of info on colleges.

College guide books are another good source of information. Be careful, though. There's a plethora of guide books on the market, but only a few of them are actually useful. My favourites are The Fiske Guide to Colleges and The Insider's Guide to Colleges, both of which have received high ratings from my students. This past July, both book publishers released their new 2003 editions. And after buying and reviewing the two books, I can say they're as good as they have ever been.
